The Book of Galatians
Galatians 2:20-21 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
A little context for this study: For the modern student, the book of Romans explains to us the fundamentals of the Grace of God. It is there that God introduces and demonstrates, from the very foundations, the things that He accomplished for us in Christ Jesus – on the cross. The content and intent of the Gospel of Christ is revealed, marking a significant change in God’s manifest dealings with the planet.
Though the book of Galatians is an earlier book than Romans, it is safe to assume the Apostle Paul preached and relayed to those of Galatia the explanation and content of the Gospel of Christ and the Grace of God that would subsequently be layed out and recorded in the book of Romans.
However, the Galatians via unbelieving religious influences of the day took that message of God’s Grace and mixed it with both the ideals of legalism and works of the flesh – thus frustrating the sufficiency of God’s provision for them. In this study, we’ll discover how God, through the Apostle Paul, addresses the issue of wrong-thinking in the Galatian church(es) and illustrates for us the very real differences between so-called religion and genuine spirituality.
